About us: Macmillan Education in South and Central America

Macmillan in South and Central America comprises four companies: based in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Peru. Macmillan Education is present in other South and Central American countries
through distributors. The main activity in South and Central America is English Language Teaching.

Argentina

The company was formed in 1998 and specialises in English Language Teaching materials, which are both published locally and imported from Macmillan in the UK.

Brazil

Macmillan do Brasil was founded in March 1994. The company publishes English Language Teaching materials designed for the Brazilian schools market. It also imports English Language Teaching texts from Macmillan UK, primarily for the important Private Language School market.

In 1996, the company was the first non-Brazilian publisher to win a state government bid.

Mexico

Macmillan has been present in Mexico for nearly 30 years. Today Macmillan is the leading publisher of English Language Teaching materials at pre-school, primary and secondary levels. A local company was formed in October 1982, currently the company has more than 160 members of staff.

In addition to locally developed products, the company also markets materials published out of the UK.

Macmillan in Mexico offers academic services to teachers of English in Mexico and other areas of Latin America as well as publishing. These services consist of:

  • Teacher training, through focused courses on ELT theory and methodology.

  • Programme development, where consultants work on adapting material to meet the requirements of different institutional programmes.

  • Support for users, with consultants providing ongoing support for users of Macmillan materials.

  • Seminars for teachers of English throughout Mexico and South and Central America.

Peru

Macmillan has been active in Peru since the early 1970s and set up a company there in 1966. It is the only multinational specialist ELT company operating in Peru. The team is made up of around 20 full-time members of staff as well as academic consultants who work on a freelance basis.
