About us: Macmillan Education in Northern, Western and Southern Europe Macmillan Educations expanding sales and marketing operation in France is run mainly from the UK headquarters in Oxford, with 2 sales representatives travelling regularly from the UK. The regional sales manager for France, Belgium and Holland is based in Paris, working from the premises run by Attica, Macmillans French distributors. Macmillan Hellas SA has its origins in the Heinemann company which used to exist in Greece. It is a sales, marketing and publishing operation which includes the former Macmillan Zenith company. The Macmillan Education business in Italy is a successful sales operation, with a regional manager based in Milan and sales representatives throughout Italy. The company offers strong teacher training programmes to primary and secondary teachers in Italy. There is a joint publishing programme in place with our Italian partners Edumond who produce Italy-specific materials for all levels of the educational system. Spain and Portugal The origins of the current company started in 1987, when it was known as Heinemann Iberia and was a division of Heinemann ELT. In January 1998 Heinemann ELT became part of Macmillan. Today the company in Spain is known as Macmillan Iberia. The company provides a sales and marketing operation - all ELT editorial work is conducted in Macmillan's UK offices in Oxford. It benefits from eight regional offices in Spain as well as a network of distributors across the country. Macmillan Iberia also distributes in Portugal. The companys most successful ELT title in Spain is the primary-level Bugs, first published in 2004. English teaching to children from the age of 3 is mandatory across most of Spain and Macmillan's titles for this market in Spain do very well. In 2007 Macmillan Iberia began a challenging initiative with the launch of two new non-ELT editorial lines for the Spanish language teaching market. The first to be launched, the new brand Macmillan Profesional, publishes educational texts in Spanish for the vocational education market. In 2007, seven new textbooks were launched in both the Spanish Castilian and Catalan languages. The second editorial line, Macmillan Infantil y Juvenil, is Macmillan Iberia's imprint for the children's publishing market in Spain. In 2007, 54 new trade and literature titles, encompassed within various different collections and designed for children from 0 to 11 years of age, were published in both Castilian and Catalan." In Turkey, Macmillan collaborates on sales and marketing with DILYAY (a subsidiary company of DILKO). The company has its origins in Heinemann Education who first came to Turkey in 1994. Turkey has recently signed a new contract with the council of Europe that will reform the educational system, putting more emphasis on English language teaching.
