Training & support

At Macmillan Education we understand that being a successful educational publisher is not only about creating exceptional teaching materials. Good teaching makes all the difference to successful learning, which is why teacher professional development and training is an integral part of what we do.

In our Higher Education division, we attend over a hundred events, exhibitions and conferences globally every year. By playing an active role in the wider higher education community, we ensure that we are well placed to work directly with institutions to deliver appropriate solutions. We also help universities and colleges deliver support to students outside the classroom through our e-learning platforms, skills4studycampus and Cite them Right.

In our Language Learning division, we work closely with English Language Teachers and a dedicated team has been brought together to curate all the training and support we provide into a flexible learning portfolio. This portfolio will be personalised and an appropriate mix of ‘formal’ and ‘informal’ learning delivered online, blended and face to face.

Our experienced and dynamic teacher trainers often travel to schools to meet with and train teachers using our language learning courses and parents who want to take an active role in their children’s learning. In 2014, we became one of the first international publishers to provide training to Heads of English from universities in Myanmar, helping them use their first new textbooks in 30 years. In Spain our training programmes are second to none. Macmillan Training Services was set up in Spain in 2011 as a dedicated facility to prepare teachers for 21st century teaching and to help familiarise people with different regional curricula. Its annual Teacher’s Days, which recently celebrated their 25th anniversary, attract over 6,000 participants.

We also invest in scholarships for teachers, providing them with the opportunity to attend industry-leading conferences like IATEFL and BESIG to improve their skills and we bring our community together online through regular interactive conferences, webinars and social media.

You can find all of our past webinars online alongside resources to use in the classroom, including the content from the award-winning Life Skills campaign. Taking home a British Council ELTon award for Innovation in Teacher Resources, Life Skills is a teacher support and awareness campaign featuring specially commissioned lesson plans, worksheets, articles and videos that are all completely free to teachers. Our annual online conference attracts over 15,000 viewers and we have a growing community of over 500,000 teachers on our teacher resource site
