Macmillan Guided Readers
New titles
The Macmillan Guided Readers Series
is the new name for the Heinemann Guided Readers, one of the best-known
and most widely used series of graded readers for learners of English in
the world. The series provides a broad variety of enjoyable fiction and
non-fiction for all learners of English. Now you can choose from Macmillan
Originals, Macmillan Classics and Macmillan Moderns.
Apart from these subdivisions, the content and the grading of the books
remains unchanged. You will find perennial favourites as well as some
exciting new titles.
- Stories in the Macmillan Guided
Readers are specially written, or are retold versions of
well-known works of classical or contemporary fiction. Titles are
carefully chosen and placed within the five staged language scheme
that complies with commonly organised syllabi.
-
The structures and language which
are presented are accumulative over the five levels.
-
New vocabulary is carefully
introduced and recycled.
-
Information on the setting and
cultural background of a story is carefully controlled, presented
and then reinforced in conjunction with attractive and integrated
captioned artwork.
-
Plots follow a linear path and
introduce a modest number of characters.
-
Students can test their
understanding of the story by answering the optional questions at
the back of the books.
-
At Intermediate and Upper Levels
textually dedicated Glossaries define specially introduced lexical
items.
These features enable the students to
naturally acquire new language while becoming thoroughly involved in the
plot development. Their increased pleasure in the story also helps to
reinforce a sense of achievement in developing their reading skills in
English.
-
For further exploitation of the
books, activity Worksheets plus Answer Keys for all
titles in the series can be downloaded free from the Readers resource site at www.macmillanenglish.com/readers,
or printed copies can be obtained from your local representative.
-
Selected Macmillan Guided Readers
are available on cassette or CD so that students can listen and
follow the story in the book.
-
Author Data Sheets are a new
introduction this year. Available from your representative, or
downloadable from the website above, the first 6 sheets will give a
selection of 3 modern and 3 classic writers featured in the series,
with information about their lives and work, contemporary issues and
