Our Language Learning Division is recognised by teachers and learners around the world. Our award-winning English Language Teaching (ELT) publishing has helped millions of students improve their language skills and equipped them with everything they need to succeed in education, in the workplace, and in life.
You’ll find us in far flung locations, from Mexico City to Madrid and from Moscow to Miami, giving us the advantage of being able to develop the right books, digital resources and tools, for the right markets. Our experienced consultants, teacher trainers and distributors are part of a network that spans over 120 countries and by working locally we can really get close to the people that matter: the teachers, the students and the communities we support.
This global reach has helped us develop our strong reputation for quality in local publishing, and with our regional publishing hubs in key countries we work closely to respond to curriculum changes and educational trends. From Miami, the Macmillan Education wing of the business is represented by the Red Nova Learning Inc. brand, developing and publishing English language teaching materials for K-12 in American English. We also have established publishing units in Spain, Poland, Russia, Hong Kong, Argentina and Brazil. These publishing units focus on developing courses specially tailored to the regions, which allows us respond quickly to local language needs. We also do this through our proactive Global Customisation team who are there to help shape existing products to better fit specific markets.
Of course, close collaboration with Ministries of Education is essential in many regions for Macmillan Education to ensure we provide courses catering to the needs of diverse curricula. We develop new courses and also adapt existing courses to ensure cultural appropriacy and there are success stories throughout the Macmillan Education portfolio. From our Middle East publishing group we’ve developed English for Palestine and Gateway to Success following close ministry collaboration. The Brazilian government recently added two Macmillan Education titles to a list of just six approved courses and in Georgia we have worked with the Ministry of Education to introduce English at primary school level and supported the extensive training programme for teachers across the country.
Crucial to Macmillan Education’s success are the valuable local partnerships we’ve developed. In China we are proud to have a close working relationship with the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press to develop and distribute New Standard English and new College English, which is already used by over 30 million students in the country.
Macmillan English is the online home for our ELT publishing and is the place to browse our products, download samples and free teaching resources and keep up-to-date with all our latest news, events and competitions. While ELT makes up about three quarters of our Language Learning publishing, we also produce titles in Spanish and Chinese and we work with publishing partners in Europe and South America to provide material to learners of French and German as a Foreign Language.
Because so many of our team have been teachers ourselves, we know what it’s like to be in the classroom. We know that our job isn’t just to create new tools and resources, it’s also to support teachers to make the most of the materials we publish, with everything from product training to skills seminars. By listening to what teachers say they need and drawing on our own experience, Macmillan Education is making teaching more effective.
