Press Release 26/03/2010
The glamorous award ceremony for the ELTons - the Oscars of the English Language Teaching community - took place earlier this month in London.
Macmillan Education was especially excited about the event as it was the first year the Macmillan Education Award for Innovative Writing was presented. This collaborativeaward with the British Council allows unpublished and undiscovered ELT talent to put forward their ideas and visions for teaching resources, be it for the classroom or self-study, online or print.
The range and scope of the entries was extremely impressive and Stuart Wiffin and Helen Gibbons were announced the inaugural winners of the Macmillan Education Award for Innovative Writing. Their unique idea for using the greatest lecturers to aid EAP teaching has bagged them £1000 and a potential publishing contract. The scope and ultimate aim of their idea is to build up the academic skills set of students (note-taking, essay-writing, presenting) through challenging and cutting-edge material.
Congratulations to them both and we look forward to seeing the entries for 2011!
Sue Jones, Managing Director ELT, Macmillan Education said 'We're thrilled about the talent that the Macmillan Education Innovative Writing Award has uncovered. The originality of the winning project offers us an interesting publishing opportunity, and we look forward to collaborating with the winning authors and discussing the future opportunities'
