Outsourced publishing services

Macmillan Distribution Ltd (MDL) provides an efficient and cost-effective service to the Macmillan group and over 40 third-party publishers. We handle over 30,000 titles at our distribution centres and are able to offer warehousing of over 400,000 sq feet, ensuring the smooth operation of receiving, storing and distributing books with full track-and-trace functionality. We have recently built a 21,000 pallet extension at our Swansea site. Our highly sophisticated computer system talks to many major customers and suppliers using EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), reducing errors on transcription and enabling speedy processing. MDL was the first book distributor to launch a PubEasy website. Participating customers have access to our title data for price and availability queries, are able to check their orders, and can place orders directly onto our computer system. This provides them with 24-hour-a-day, 365 days-a-year access to data. The implementation of Nielsen Booknet also offers online price, availability, ordering and tracking information.

Macmillan Production (Asia) Ltd (MPAL) is the Pacific Rim print and paper-buying company of the Macmillan Publishing Group. MPAL has been managing the production of books cost-effectively in South East Asia and shipping them to a range of publishing companies in the USA, UK, Europe, Australasia, Africa and Latin America for over 30 years. Products handled by MPAL range from straightforward black and white paperbacks, through case-bound colour books to complicated kits and children's games.
