Gateway to the ELT world.
Macmillan Education has a presence in over 120 countries across the world with publishing hubs in places from Miami to Mexico City to Madrid and beyond. This means we can focus on our language learning business and adapt it to the needs of our customers wherever they are.
For many years based in Oxford, Macmillan went through an exciting period of transformation in 2013, moving to a modern complex in central London. Located at the heart of Europe’s biggest urban regeneration project in the King’s Cross area, the new Macmillan Campus allows us to collaborate with our colleagues from across the Macmillan Science and Education group to stay at the forefront of innovative publishing – both in print and digital.
It also means we can attract the best talent in editorial, technology, production, sales and marketing and reach our colleagues and customers across the world more quickly and easily.
Much of our international language learning, English Language Teaching (ELT) and curriculum publishing is based in London, as are our teams that develop specialised content for markets including the Middle East, Europe and the Caribbean
Although based in London, we have recently expanded our operation across the globe to better serve our customers in the vastly diverse regions we work in. For instance, our offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai serve a rapidly growing East Asian market, while Grupo Macmillan takes care of much of our publishing in Spain, Latin America and the United States.
In the few countries where we don’t have offices or our own local ELT representatives, we work with the industry’s most trusted distributors to meet the needs of teachers and students who want to use Macmillan material as part of their learning journey.

Macmillan Education is part of a publishing business based on a rich past and with a strong foothold in the future under the wider Macmillan Science and Education group.
Macmillan was established in 1843 by brothers Alexander and Daniel Macmillan and originally published fiction by some of the world’s best-known authors including Thomas Hardy and Lewis Carroll, before adding scientific and educational titles to the business.
Macmillan Science and Education was established to bring together some of the most trusted and most innovative businesses in the field. Macmillan Education works alongside Palgrave Macmillan, higher education and academic publisher and Nature Publishing Group, owner of Nature, the leading weekly scientific journal and source of many of the most exciting developments in science. It also brings together some of the most innovative and successful start-ups in science and education like Maths Doctor, Tutoria and Late Nite Labs.
The Macmillan name lives on today and its parent company, the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, remains a family business.
Holtzbrinck is based in Stuttgart, Germany and is one of the world’s leading media companies. In its portfolio on top of book publishing are exciting new media firms and technology start-ups as well as established news and magazine titles including Die Zeit.
