Macmillan Education Group

2008 saw the formation of the Macmillan Education Group, a unified management structure for all the Macmillan educational businesses under the leadership of the Chief Executive, Julian Drinkall. As the company faces the challenges to global education, this move was a strategic decision to bring together centres of excellence and focus on innovation in the publishing areas of curriculum, Spanish curriculum, ELT and digital developments.

The operating divisions that form the Macmillan Education Group today are the following:

Grupo Macmillan is now the largest publisher of English Language Teaching materials in Latin America for Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Uruguay. Providing language teaching material at all levels from pre-school through to university and adult, it publishes textbooks to meet local syllabuses and leads the way with its highly respected teacher training network. In 2007, the acquisition of the leading Spanish curriculum publishers Castillo served to strengthen its market position developed over 35 years, and the latest local language acquisition Puerto de Palos, Cantaro and Estrada expand the Spanish language publishing operations even further.

Macmillan Iberia operates in one of Macmillan Education's most successful markets and drives much of Macmillan's most innovative regional publishing projects. Not only publishing world-class materials for the primary and secondary sectors, Macmillan Iberia prides itself on providing a highly personal and professional service for teachers in Spain by way of its regional offices and through a large number of sales representatives and distributors covering the whole country. Recently, the expansion of new Spanish publishing for Children and Vocational areas reinforces the strategy that sees Spain as a key investment region.

Gill and Macmillan is one of Ireland’s leading publishers of school, college, and further education books. Its unrivalled reputation for teacher and student support includes feature-rich interactive materials that complement the extensive print publishing programme. Alongside the extensive educational catalogue is an impressive range of fiction and non-fiction titles that cover everything from Irish myths and legends to true crime non-fiction by distinguished experts in the field.

Macmillan Education Australia is one of the leading educational publishers in Australia and New Zealand with a vigorous curriculum publishing programme for primary and secondary schools. With its enormous range of print, electronic and web-based resources, and providing both state-based and school-based professional development sessions on education topics for teachers, it's little wonder it was crowned Primary Educational Publisher of the Year in 2007 and 2008.

Macmillan English Campus was the first ELT online learning environment to be launched by any major educational publisher. As the demand for online learning grows, Macmillan has always been ahead of the game by developing cutting-edge digital developments for blended learning. The Macmillan English Campus programme promotes an effective blend of face-to-face teaching and online support materials for language institutions, and with the launch of Macmillan Practice Online there is now a flexible and affordable option for teachers and students to adopt online courses.

Macmillan Education Oxford is at the heart of much of Macmillan Education's extensive publishing. The Oxford headquarters houses publishing and production teams, as well as the sales centre for international ELT, country-specific ELT and curriculum development. Sales territories managed from Oxford are Africa, the Caribbean, Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.

Macmillan India is one of the oldest publishing houses in India, characterised by high-quality publishing in many areas: educational course materials, science, technology and medicine, college textbooks, dictionaries, monographs and reference materials. It enjoys an unrivalled reputation, and in 2007 Macmillan acquired Frank Brothers to secure its position in India's higher education market.

Macmillan Production Asia provides book production, printing solutions and non-book products for the Macmillan group and third-party businesses worldwide. The impressive local publishing highlights Macmillan's strength in producing bespoke materials for specific market sectors, such as the diverse and important programme in China. Macmillan Language House in Japan is a strong publisher of ELT materials in Japan specifically, and there is an active publishing programme for schools in Hong Kong, http://www.macmillan.com.hk.

Macmillan South Africa encapsulates the major publishing commitment that Macmillan has made to the region for many years. The curriculum and trade publishing is diverse and innovative, working hand in hand with Ministries of Education to fulfil the needs of the region. Today this publishing is driven by the following companies within the MSA group: Macmillan Boleswa Publishers (including Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique and Swaziland); Gamsberg Macmillan Publishers (Namibia); and Clever Books.
